Keep your eyes out for this one, guys. Deer Lord! is a card game full of duels, tomfoolery, and a high likelihood of getting intoxicated throughout. In fact, I highly encourage it! In a world where I am sick and tired of Cards Against Humanity knockoffs, Deer Lord! fills a void that many social gamers need filled.
Deer Lord! features two types of cards in play: a ‘Do Something’ card which provokes sneakiness and ‘Duel’ cards which pits players against one another. With Do Something’s, you are tasked with accomplishing specific things during a player’s turn but the point is to be completely covert about it. You’ll gain rewards and almost definitely the rage of your friends! With ‘Duel’ cards, this brings out the competition with no bells and whistles. Your card will most likely encourage some kind of stand off, so be prepared. The rewards are sweet, though, giving a great sense of encouragement to complete your Do Something’s and gain courage to Duel. No sitting idle in this game, which we absolutely love.
What is most intriguing is the abundance of building your deck right off the back. During gameplay, cards can get shuffled out fairly quickly, but the team behind Deer Lord! has given a great variety of expansions straight from launch. These expansions include topics such as: Geek, Flirty and Gangsta, just to name a few. It’s a great way of tailoring the game to your needs. Seeing my friends deal with Gangsta Do Something cards is tempting… This element, while small, creates a robust experience each time. My initial concerns, like with every new card game, was how many times we’ll see cards return into play in the future. I’m excited to see how subject matter can drastically change the feel of the game – I mean, will we be getting dance battles or Pokemon battles depending on the expansion Duel cards? Who knows!
Deer Lord!is definitely something to be fawned over, doe.
(See what we did there? Do you? Ah… too obvious…?)
