Guys. Guys. Guys. There are only a certain amount of words that can describe how ecstatic, but also worried this makes me feel! It’s safe to say the shock of seeing a Walking Dead game so intricately designed based off the comic was not something I expected to see in 2016 with the show so widely promoted. Mantic Games kind of went a little ham on Kickstarter not too long ago and announced The Walking Dead: All Out War.
I’m a little late to the game, I’ll admit, but with this game already funded… there’s hope that this formula of games will be well-received. From my understanding, it pulls from some the great zombie games already on the market – Dead of Winter and Zombicide – as a survivor and resource management game. Playing as characters from the comic book is ridiculously exciting, but I’m concerned about how this differs from what’s on the market already.
The stars in my eyes fade when the price tag rears its ugly head. For such a miniature-heavy game, expect to pay at least $125 dollars for the zombie-war game. There have been worse deals, but the question remains: is the novelty of playing Rick & Co. worth the price when I can just set up Zombicide?
However, don’t let my worries detour you from thinking long and hard about this investment. The pieces look amazing for any collector proud to show pretty pics on Instagram. For the amount of content, I have no fears of these miniatures shambling into the hearts of many, but… will the game live up to the name or just be a copy of previous games? You be the judge!
WHY SHOULD I BACK THIS ON KICKSTARTER?
The Walking Dead: All Out War looks to be a great co-op game with the formula similar to Zombicide and Dead of Winter.
The miniatures are to DIE for. Not only is there a lot of detail put in, but the style fits with the art from the graphic novel.
For the price tag, this would be a great item for a collector.
